Course Overview
The Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) offered by the London Institute of Business and Technology (LIBT) is a Level 7 qualification recognised by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). It is designed to prepare educators, trainers, and academic leaders to address contemporary challenges and opportunities in education through research-informed and practice-oriented learning.
The programme provides a holistic understanding of educational philosophy, modern pedagogical approaches, assessment, technology integration, neuroscience, inclusive education, and leadership in the digital era. Programme Modules
This programme consists of 10 modules totalling 150 credits.
This unit aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the philosophical underpinnings of education and contemporary theories of learning and teaching. Students will explore how these philosophies and theories can be applied to create effective and inclusive educational practices in diverse settings.
This unit aims to enhance students' ability to design and deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences. It will cover advanced instructional strategies, curriculum development, and classroom management techniques tailored to various educational contexts and learner needs.
This unit focuses on the principles and practices of educational assessment and evaluation. Students will learn to develop, implement, and analyse assessment tools and methods that accurately measure student learning outcomes and inform instructional decisions.
The aim of this unit is to empower learners with a comprehensive understanding of the role and impact of technology in modern education. Students will explore the various applications of technology in teaching, learning, and assessment, and critically evaluate the benefits and challenges associated with incorporating digital tools in educational settings. By the end of this unit, students will have developed the skills necessary to effectively utilise technology to enhance student learning experiences, creating engaging and innovative educational environments.
The aim of this unit is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the pivotal role that research and academic literature play in the field of education. Students will develop critical skills in evaluating research studies, enabling them to discern the quality and relevance of research findings. By the end of this unit, learners will be equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to apply research insights to enhance and improve educational practices, fostering a more effective and informed approach to teaching and learning.
The aim of this unit is to provide students with a foundational understanding of learning analytics and its applications within the educational landscape. Students will study the basic principles and techniques of learning analytics, gaining insights into how data can be analysed to understand and enhance student learning outcomes. Additionally, the unit will explore ethical considerations and best practices, ensuring that learners are equipped to implement learning analytics responsibly and effectively to support educational improvement.
This unit explores the latest research in neuroscience and its practical implications for teaching and learning. Students will gain insights into how the brain processes information and how this knowledge can be used to develop effective teaching strategies that cater to the diverse needs of learners.
This unit aims to prepare students for leadership and management roles within educationalsettings. It covers contemporary leadership theories, strategic planning, and changemanagement, with a particular focus on leading digital transformation in education.
This unit focuses on the principles and practices of inclusive education, with particular attention to supporting learners with special educational needs and disabilities. Students will explore legislation, policy frameworks, and evidence-based strategies that promote access, participation, and achievement for all learners. The unit encourages critical reflection on inclusive pedagogies and the teacher’s role in fostering equitable learning environments.
This unit enables students to compile a professional portfolio demonstrating their development as reflective practitioners. Drawing on evidence from their teaching context, students will document professional growth, link theory to practice, and critically evaluate the impact of their work on learner outcomes. The portfolio serves as a capstone project, showcasing competence, critical insight, and readiness for advanced professional practice.
Entry Requirements
Entry to LIBT Level 7 Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management
• A bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification.
• Should be at least 22 years of age.Or
• A minimum of 5 years of managerial experience.
